Hand-dyed textiles by Carrole Blakeman. using traditional Indigo dyes.
Carrole's journey to Indigo began 5 years ago while exploring textile surface design. She has always been drawn to textile work, even while pursuing a 20 year career in clay. She finds that the tending of the Indigo vat is similar in many ways to the reduction firing of clay, and similar too, in it's unpredictable nature. Carrole is captivated by the mystery of Indigo and intrigued by the techniques of Shibori, Japanese resist by stitching, folding, and manipulation of the cloth before dyeing. She looks forward to her days tending the vat, and the continual challenges and surprises it produces.
